The 20th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival took center stage in New York City this past weekend highlighting and showcasing some of the most ground breaking and innovative narratives from filmmakers, writers, producers, and directors from all over the globe. The closing night slate included and introduced two highly anticipated programs "SHOTS FIRED" a brand new 10 part series which will air on FOX early next year created by husband and wife director duo Reggie "Rock" Bythewood and Gina Prince Bythewood which examines the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small Southern town. We also got a glimpse of THE NEW EDITION STORY" which comes out of Jesse Collins Entertainment which will air on BET in January. New Edition laid the foundation for how the modern-day boy band looks, sounds, and feels. Boyz II Men, N'SYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and New Kids On The Block all took their cues from Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike and Ralph. After 30 years of breaking hearts on the record and from the stage, New Edition finally gets the biopic that their stellar tenure in entertainment so richly deserves. This 3-part miniseries follows the group from their middle school lunchroom to global mega stardom-weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes, and the ultimate cost of fame.
