Oakwood University is the Tom Joyner Foundation School of the month for April 2017. Every dollar contributed through this program will be matched to give scholarships to Oakwood students. The goal of the "School of the Month" campaign is $40,000.
On the first and third Thursday mornings in the month, Tom Joyner announces (on his syndicated radio program, The Tom Joyner Morning Show) a young man, selected by the staff at Oakwood University, designated as a "Hercules Scholar" in honor of Tom's father, the late Hercules Joyner. Erwin Stuffle from Bridgetown, Barbados, was named as the second Hercules Scholar at Oakwood University on April 20. He will receive a $1,500 scholarship from Tom Joyner Foundation in recognition of his academic achievements, leadership skills and community service.
The first in his family to attend college, Erwin's goal is to be a physician. He plans to specialize in infectious diseases and wants to help pave the way in combating disparities in health caused by diseases such as HIV/AIDS, syphilis and hepatitis.
