Virginia Union University's Taylor White, who was the 2015-16 CIAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was chosen to the All-CIAA Volleyball Team in 2016 was honored as Co-Valedictorian of the Class of 2017 at the University's Commencement on Saturday, May 13, in Richmond, Va.
White, who was co-valedictorian with Nhat Hoang Van Le, majored in Teacher Education and carried a perfect 4.0 grade point average while at Virginia Union.
White, a senior from LaPlata, Md., made the All-CIAA Volleyball Team after collecting 145 kills and 49 blocks last season.
In 2015-16 she recorded an average of 10.1 rebounds and 9 points per game for the Lady Panthers basketball team. She totaled 11 double-doubles, blocked 26 shots, and was named to the 2016 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Team. In her best contest that season, the 4.0 Dean's List education major grabbed 20 rebounds while scoring 21 points versus Rollins College.
Playing a major role in her community, White served as an essay judge for the Lucille M. Brown Community Youth Bowl, participated in the Teddy Bear Christmas Drive, and has volunteered more than 60 hours at the Overby-Sheppard Elementary School in Richmond. In addition to serving as a linguistics tutor, the senior standout led her team in community initiatives during the 2016 Elite Eight Tournament.
