Texas Southern University collaborates with D.C. firm to create specialized academic support software (1330 hits)

Texas Southern University has partnered with the Education Advisory Board (EAB), a research and technology company based in Washington, D.C., to improve the outcome of the University’s top priority – student success and completion.

EAB’s Student Success Management System and Navigate software will link administrators, academic advisors, deans, faculty, and students in a coordinated care network to aid in managing student success at Texas Southern. The new program will work in conjunction with the college’s ERP system to create customized models using real-time student data to identify at-risk students. Academic advisors can use the software to be proactive in assisting students who need special attention.

“TSU will be on the cutting edge of using predictive analytics to turn existing data into insight and proactively serve students. Our efforts will ensure that students who are at risk of having academic problems are identified early and remain connected with advisors who can provide critical help,” said Wendell Williams, special assistant to the president and interim executive director of enrollment management. “This intrusive advising method should have a major impact on everything from retention rates and grade-point averages, graduation rates and successful careers.”

Tigers Collaboratively Learning and Actively Working (TCLAW), serves as the campus engagement group of administrators, advisors and faculty members who will work with EAB representatives to customize software for each college and school at TSU. The TCLAW engagement group will meet December 12, 2017 to start the process. The implementation plan will continue into the Spring term and go live just before the Fall 2018 semester.

This initiative is a result of TSU’s participation in the Guided Pathways to Success (GPS) for Houston-area college students. Implementation will help Texas Southern meet the targets set in its TSU 2022 initiative and fulfill its obligation toward the state’s 60x30 education plan.
