The Tom Joyner Foundation is recognizing Texas College in Tyler, Texas as the April 2018 School of the Month.
The foundation, formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality, chose Texas College as part of its on-going effort to assist these institutions in broadening and strengthening their efforts to raise money to help keep students attending HBCUs.
As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, Texas College will be promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.
Celebrating 124 years of providing educational opportunities, Texas College is a historically black college founded in 1894, by a group of CME ministers. Texas College’s mission, which continues to embody the principles of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, is to ensure that the student body experiences balanced intellectual, psychological, social and spiritual development, aimed at enabling them to become active productive members of society where they live and work. Texas College is led by its 23rd President Dr. Dwight J. Fennell.
