Oakwood University Students Win at ALSAMP Research Conference (1500 hits)

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, nine students from Oakwood's science departments and Dr. Kenneth Lai Hing, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and Oakwood Program Coordinator, to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, to participate in the Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ALSAMP) 2018 Research Conference.

Oakwood has been a member of this National Science Foundation-funded program since 1991, and has been a leader in research and student development. The current ALSAMP grant, funded by the National Science Foundation, consists of nine Alabama institutions:

• Alabama A&M University
• Miles College
• Oakwood University
• Stillman College
• Talladega College
• University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa
• University of Alabama, Birmingham
• University of alabama, Huntsville
• University of South Alabama

Of the nine students who attended the conference, six presented their research in the poster competition. Jasmine Thornhill won first place in the Life Sciences Division, and Joshua Smith won second place in the Engineering and Physical Sciences Division.

All of our students were winners, representing the University and themselves well, bolstering Oakwood University's reputation as a nationally recognized producer of high-quality STEM talent.
