I am writing this on a rainy day from my home in The Woodlands, Texas. Less than 3 percent of the population of The Woodlands is black as of 2017. I am an 18-year-old junior at Harris-Stowe State University. I graduated high school with an associate’s degree and began college at 14, having been accepted to several prestigious and top-20 universities and choosing Harris-Stowe in the end.
As an out-of-state student at Harris-Stowe State University, I am one of the many who have chosen the university as my home. To many, it might appear that I have made a mistake in attending such a university due to the low and statistically misleading graduation rates often attributed to the school.
