The 77th McDonald’s Magic City Classic was lit! The weekend’s legendary football classic featured a live performance by hip-hop vet Gucci Mane accompanied by his wife Keyshia Ka'Oir. Acclaimed actor Don Cheadle was spotted serving as the McDonald’s Magic City Classic Ambassador alongside Birmingham’s 30th mayor Randall Woodfin, while The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy brought hot beats to McDonald’s HBCUnion tailgate. With more than 65,000 attendees, this year’s McDonald’s Magic City Classic was one for the record books!
As a brand, McDonald’s is committed to educational empowerment. In addition to coming together with the hottest celebs to support the Classic, McDonald’s presented Alabama State University student Brea Williams with a $10,000 True to the HBCU scholarship, facilitated by Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). This is the second of four scholarships the brand is presenting to commendable students to help cover higher education expenses, such as tuition, room, board and books, that can sometimes hinder students from achieving graduation.
McDonald’s is celebrating History, Heritage and Legacy at HBCU Classics across the country as a part of its True to the HBCU program. Next up, the Golden Arches will bring its HBCUnion experience to Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on November 9th and The Florida Blue Florida Classic in Orlando, Fla. On November 17th.
