WHEN: Saturday (Dec. 1) at Noon - 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: ASU's Tullibody Hall Theatre Bld. & at ASU's Rosa Parks Statue (building & statue on corner of N. University & S. Jackson).
Join Alabama State University on Saturday at noon as it honors Rosa Parks (its former student) with an inside ceremony on the very site where she attended school with us, and then the ceremony will conclude as those present proceed directly outside of Tullibody Hall to the ASU Rosa Parks' statue where we will offer a floral dedication at it in her honor with her favorite flowers (pink roses) in commemoration of her on what is the State of Alabama's inaugural "Rosa Parks Day."
Saturday is also the anniversary of Ms. Parks' arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus to a white passenger, which was the catalyst for the seminal birth of the modern civil rights movement.
The commemoration at Alabama state University is free and open to the public.
SATURDAY'S EVENT SPECIAL GUESTS
Present at the ceremony on Saturday will be ASU President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., ASU alumnae Mrs. Jeanie Graetz (personal friend/neighbor of Rosa Parks, participant in the Montgomery Bus Boycott and wife of Boycott leader Rev. Robert Graetz), Dr. Ralph Bryson (friend of Rosa Parks and retired ASU faculty member who participated in the 1955 Bus Boycott) and scholars who will discuss the importance of Parks and the movement that her action brought about for America and the world.
Music at the event will be provided by ASU's College of Visual & Performing Arts, and light refreshments will be served.
NOTE: The ASU "University Choir" will perform later in the day (at 5:30 p.m.) at the St. Paul A.M.E. Church at the dedication ceremony of a historical marker at that location, which will honor Parks.
