Alabama State University will have plenty of star power at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome on June 1, when it hosts the third annual Alex City vs. Central-Coosa Charity Alumni Basketball Game with former NFL and NBA players. Fans will have an opportunity to have their sports memorabilia signed by the pros at the event. Proceeds from the alumni game will be shared among several charities in the players’ Alabama hometowns.
The star-studded event includes Pro Football Hall of Fame (2018) wide receiver Terrell Owens and two-time Super Bowl champ Justin Tuck; as well as former NBA players Jamario Moon and Gerald Wallace; former Detroit Lion Scottie Vines and former NFL players Adalius Thomas and Randy Moss.
“All the players, who are expected to play, attended either Central-Coosa High School or Benjamin Russell High School,” said Adres Hicks, one of the events coordinators. The rivalry game between Alex City’s Benjamin Russell High School and Coosa’s Central-Coosa High School will include both a women’s and men’s game.
Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s game beginning at 2:30 p.m. and the men’s game to follow.
“The game started as a way to give back to the hometown and have something for the kids,” said Hicks. “We want to send the message that if you work hard you can be successful even if you don’t make it to the pros.”
