On Monday, February 11th, at Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City, the National CARES Mentoring Movement presented its fourth annual For the Love of Our Children Gala, featuring a special appearance by the evening’s Honorary Chair, Grammy Award-winner Alicia Keys, and co-hosted by TV host and award-winning journalist Tamron Hall and best-selling author and professor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.
This year’s honorees included Tony Award-nominated actress and producer LaTanya Richardson Jackson and twin sisters Deryl McKissack and Cheryl McKissack Daniel of McKissack & McKissack, the oldest women/minority-owned professional design and construction firm in the United States. Honorees received awards from Tina Knowles-Lawson, Richard Lawson. The event is co-chaired by director and producer, Crystal McCrary and Citigroup’s Global Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, Raymond J. McGuire.
In addition, for the first time ever, the National CARES Mentoring Movement Gala will shine light on of 16 exceptional young urban designers from the High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI) in New York City, featuring their designs in a spectacular presentation, the evening’s finale, introduced by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne—designers and co-founders of the trend-setting clothing line Public School. They will announce the creation of the Fashion Community CARES Scholarship Fund, a new scholarship that will help offset the financial barriers that many young designers face in furthering their education.
