Major Duties:
-Performs periodic inspections during tour of duty to determine nature and extent of repairs required.
-Replaces or repairs all types of valves. Unplugs stopped-up drains, checks on oil pumps.
-On air-conditioning system, must determine load conditions and adjust accordingly.
-Inspects heating and cooling (Johnson Control) metasys systems, records gauge data such as temperature, humidity and pressure.
-Adjusts or makes repairs to thermostats as needed and convert from summer to winter modes.
-Adjusts or makes repairs to hot water equipment, sterilizers, stills, pressure reducing stations, steam radiators and connections.
-Installs drive belts on exhaust and intake blowers, in order not to interrupt service during peak load hours.
-Works with journeymen in the refrigeration trades when assigned to make major repairs or replacement done on off hour shifts.

Physical Requirements: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or comfortable positions; to include working on stages, ladders or scaffolds and will climb stairs and work in cramped positions. The incumbent carries, lifts and handles parts weighing up to 50 pounds. The work is performed inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather. The work area may be dirty, wet, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, broken bones, electrical shock, infections, bites, exposure to inhalation of harmful chemical fumes, irritation of eyes, etc. The incumbent may wear protective clothing.
