A vibrant campus spanning 50 buildings in downtown Portland, PSU is an integral part of the Portland metro area.

Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Global Diversity and Inclusion (VPGDI) will be a respected leader with a strong commitment to the mission of an urban public university and to the educational value of inclusive excellence. This senior officer will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the campus and in the greater community through strategic planning, collaboration, and innovation. The vice president will lead the Global Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) division; provide strategic and visionary leadership in promoting an institutional culture that values diversity and supports inclusive excellence; partner with campus leaders, students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies to create and facilitate cultural change and transformation; proactively develop and implement policies, plans, programs, and activities that both educate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values of the institution; and lead Portland State’s efforts in realizing its bold ambition to become a national model for inclusive excellence and community engagement.

The overarching goal of the VPGDI will be to promote and implement PSU’s strategic plan by intentionally incorporating an equity lens into the working fiber of the institution that will cultivate an environment in which all members of the university will feel a sense of belonging and can thrive as individuals and as a community. The VPGDI will serve as a valued member of the President’s Executive Council and lead the 80-member President’s Diversity Action Council (DAC). The VPGDI will be responsible for an administrative division comprised of four pillars: (1) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advocacy; (2) Diversity Education & Learning; (3) Equity & Compliance; and (4) Diversity & Multicultural Student Services. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of and expertise in the issues of race, sexuality, gender, disability, indigeneity, class, and the dynamics of difference, privilege, and power.
