Job title: Men's Merchandising Brand Manager


General Summary: Responsible to drive market share and profitability by building a clear and comprehensive portfolio of Exclusive Brands across DSW Inc. Defines clear DNA of all brands and product categories thru extensive knowledge of customer and marketplace. Develops and clearly articulates long term growth strategy for total Exclusive Brands. Owns development during all aspects of product life cycle through partnership with design and sourcing resources. Directs Exclusive Brands Process from pre-season development thru in-season analytics. Fosters an environment that supports strong relationships between Exclusive Brand team, Buying team, cross-functional partners, and vendor community. Develops clear Exclusive Brand position by Company banner to deliver sales and margin profit to DSW Inc.


Reports to: Exclusive Brand VP/GMM


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Owns and develops the portfolio of Exclusive Brands across all product categories for DSW Inc.
  • Oversees the establishment of clear and unique brand DNA across each brand in portfolio
  • Seeks out "white space" of product offerings, brand positioning, and banner growth to gain market share
  • Leads constant innovation of process to enhance Exclusive Brands marketplace position
  • Acts as an ambassador for all exclusive brands and banners and voice of the customer
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of customer and marketplace
  • Connects DSW Inc. initiatives to Exclusive Brand work
  • Builds Long Range Plans for total Exclusive Brand growth and defines a clear path for execution
  • Determines financial plans with planning leaders and VP/GMM
  • Analyzes total DSW Inc performance and understands relevance and impact to Exclusive Brands
  • Leads team to craft Seasonal Category Architecture Roadmaps to support financial strategy
  • Seeks out opportunities to gain knowledge of domestic brand results, marketplace data, and customer analytics
  • Leverages areas of DSW Inc. business to implement new learnings in Exclusive Brands
  • Influences line building development in partnership with Brand Managers and design and sourcing partners
  • Leads team in development meetings inclusive of sketch, proto review, and style review
  • Partners with merchants to build seasonal assortments
  • Adjusts product development needs based on current selling performance and analytics
  • Attends and interacts in buyer style & line reviews
  • Studies domestic and exclusive brand competition internally and externally and makes recommendations
  • Responsible for building a holistic Exclusive Brands process inclusive of development milestone cadence
  • Provides partnership and direction to design and sourcing leadership
  • Acts as a change champion across the business to ensure business goals Long Range Plans are achieved


Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to craft overall assortment architecture and financial strategy
  • Strong financial acumen to analyze business results and interpret actions for Exclusive Brands

  • Ability to Manage several direct reports
  • Ability to teach and develop all members of Exclusive Brands team

  • Manages time and team workload efficiently and knows how to prioritize to drive results
  • Confident in sharing point of view and offering feedback
  • Seeks out opportunities to grow in new area of the business
  • International and domestic travel required




  • 10+ years merchant/buying experience – including experience in private brands and product development
  • Leadership experience in product brand development and / or merchandising.
  • Prior experience building Long Range Plans
  • 3 – 5 years leading people



  • B.S. Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business or equivalent experience
