Job Description
Lead Social Services Assistant
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
A Quality Ranking Factor* has been requested by the facility to help determine which of the basically qualified applicants are likely to be better qualified for a position. The quality ranking factor for this position is: "Do you have experience in a call center environment linking emergency services to individuals, and the individual's family members, who are in immediate suicidal crisis?" *Quality Ranking Factors are skills, knowledge, abilities, or other worker characteristics which could be expected to result in superior performance on the job. Quality ranking factors will not be used for screening, but may be used as ranking criteria. Applicants with higher proficiency levels may rank above those with lower proficiency levels on a quality ranking factor.
You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Lead Social Services Assistant. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: directly leading and counseling social services assistants or crisis intervention specialists responding to incoming calls from clients and/or their families related to substance abuse, depression, suicide, and/or violence; possession of strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to remain calm in stressful situations; skilled in problem solving; provides mentoring or training to others; enforces established policies and procedures as well as regulatory procedures; proficient in web-based computer systems as well as multi-line telephone systems. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume to receive full credit and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. -OR - You may substitute specialized experience with graduate level education (above a bachelor's degree) if you have successfully completed one- and one-half years graduate education (27 semester hours), which are directly related to the work of the position. (Copy of transcript(s) required at the time of application.) - OR - Equivalent combinations of graduate education (above a bachelor's degree) and experience directly related to the work of this position may also be qualifying to meet the total qualification requirements.
