Job Summary

Position: Supervisory Security Specialist-CSO, GS-14

Division:  Springfield Field Office

Location:  Springfield, IL

Working Hours:  8:15 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Salary: GS 14:  $107,807.00 - $140,146.00

Full Performance level: GS 14

Number of Positions Available: 1

Duration: Full Time/Permanent

GS-14 Duties

•    Serves as Chief Security Officer (CSO) in the field office with full responsibility and delegated authority to implement and carry out all facets of a highly effective and        competent security program.
•    Plans, directs, coordinates and controls work of the security program, and supervises all related security positions/staff.
•    Formulates, interprets, and implements security policy, procedures, systems, and programs for the office.
•    Determines security clearances for employees or other persons to have access to sensitive information, resources, material or work sites.
•    Reviews designs and inspects facilities where sensitive material will be located.
•    Ensures the proper classification of secure and sensitive information.
•    Prepares and presents oral and written briefings/presentations to management regarding the program.

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

•    Assisted with the development and/or implementation of methods for identifying and protecting information property or facilities from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, espionage, sabotage, or loss.
•    Prepared and presented oral and written presentations related to security matters.
•    Acted as a team lead, mentor or supervisor to a group of employees.

MUST articulate proficiency in Personnel, Physical, Industrial, and Information Security. Information Technology Security is a plus, but is not required at this time.

Education

Education may not be substituted for Specialized Experience for this grade level.

  • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and consent to a complete background investigation, urinalysis, and polygraph. You must be suitable for Federal employment; as determined by a background investigation.

  • The selectee will be required to serve a one-year probationary period for initial assignment to a supervisory position. 
  • If you are hired, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period. Probationary employees are precluded from being considered for all job opportunities until 12-months of their two-year probationary period has concluded. Probationary Employees may be considered for competitive vacancies that are advertised within their respective division or field office after serving 90 days within the FBI.
  • The probationary periods will be served concurrently. 
  • Memorandum of Understanding: Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on an SF-50, i. e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position. The following notations must be specified in the documentation (Memorandum of Understanding):

        a. Percent of time worked in the particular position (cannot conflict with main duties)
        b. The month/year work began
        c. Frequency worked (i.e., daily, monthly, etc.)
        d. Specific duties performed
