Working Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm (Monday - Friday) (Flexible)

Salary: GS-13 $94,299.00 - $122,592.00;

Full Performance level: GS-13

Mission Statement:

The mission of the FBI is to protect the American People and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Major Duties:

  • Responds to requests for information from the press and public.  Prepares and disseminates local news releases and statements that reflect the official position of the FBI by coordinating pertinent facts with Headquarters and affected Divisions.  Participates in briefing news media on the Division’s programs and activities.
  • Coordinates with executive management, HQ, and interagency partners on matters such as crisis response, external engagement and community outreach, and internal communications.  Maintains liaison with media and interagency partners to ensure effective working relationships.  Assists in solving complex inquiries related to public affairs problems.
  • Develops communications plans by considering such items as specific topics or aspects to emphasize, the most effective media to use in communicating with intended audiences, and the kind of information various groups want or need. Communications plans will not only be external-focused, but will also address communications with FBI tenants at Redstone.
  • Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of communication plans and advises management if efforts should be discontinued, emphasis changed, or coverage expanded in improving intercommunication between organization and various audiences through media utilization.
  • Provides support in the areas of planning and execution of communications to stakeholders on the agency's Internet, Intranet, and social media platforms. Represents FBI Redstone in interagency discussions regarding social media.
  • Works independently and within groups/cross-functional teams to understand priorities, brand/communications strategies and plans, and proactively translate those into digital campaigns and projects. Develops and manages digital content plan and calendar, aligning with communications strategy to increase views, engagement, and brand affinity.
  • Contributes to planning and implementing FBI Redstone’s social media postings, including the fostering of a consistent tone, style, and content on social media.


Qualifications and Evaluations

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience responding to requests for information by media, and to the public in a formally/professional matter.
  • Experience reviewing current press articles or stories and relaying communicated information to appropriate professional entities.
  • Experience disseminating news releases and statements on issues of national significance; coordinated press conferences, news briefings, and interviews in a formal/professional matter.
  • Experience responding to complex, critical, and sensitive issues in accordance with established specific regulations.

Additional Information

  • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and consent to a complete background investigation, urinalysis, and polygraph. You must be suitable for Federal employment; as determined by a background investigation.

  • If you are hired, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.   • Memorandum of Understanding: Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on an SF-50, i. e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position. The following notations must be specified in the documentation (Memorandum of Understanding):

        a. Percent of time worked in the particular position (cannot conflict with main duties)
        b. The month/year work began
        c. Frequency worked (i.e., daily, monthly, etc.)
        d. Specific duties performed
