Senior Director Commercial Finance

How will you make an impact?

Reporting to the VP of Finance, this position is responsible for leading all aspects of commercial finance including pricing excellence for the +$2.5B Chromatography & Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD). Key responsibilities include overseeing all elements of the commercial profit and loss statements, strategic pricing processes and decisions, and sponsoring/leading initiatives that create customer and company value in advancing our global growth agenda. The position will directly support the VP of Commercial, CMD and work closely with the Division Leadership Team and Commercial Leadership.

What will you do?

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Lead all aspects of divisional booking and revenue processes including the alignment across business units / commercial teams. Establish efficient and effective processes that drive quality and accuracy.
  • Review, approve, and facilitate escalated approval requirements of customer deals as outlined in the Approval Authority Matrix includes pricings levels, terms and conditions, and adherence to revenue recognition guidance.
  • Lead the preparation of consolidated commercial materials for the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) presentations. Provide insight and coaching to VP Commercial to ensure all deliverables are prepared of high quality and transparency.
  • Support effective collections on customer accounts contributing to a strong cash performance for the division and reducing bad debt exposure globally.
  • Ensure compliance and controllership discipline is applied through all aspects of commercial decisions, ensuring policies and US GAAP adherence and upholding the highest levels of ethics
Planning and Forecasting:
  • Lead all commercial elements of forecasting processes including strategic planning, annual operating plan tasks, and ongoing forecasts in support of corporate requirements
  • Establish use of predictive insights and modern forecasting methodologies to drive improved accuracy and predictability (e.g. rolling forecasts, scenario planning)
  • Oversee the Commercial operating budget, ensuring funds are effectively deployed and discipline is applied to travel and living, headcount management, and indirect costs
  • Drive effective prioritization and ROI achievement on investments (including headcount) required to deliver on critical growth strategies and Corporate funded initiatives
  • Partner with Commercial Leadership to design and deploy effective compensation plans and incentives for the commercial teams that align to our strategic objectives and apply a pay-for-performance philosophy
  • Lead processes to align quotas and operating plans down to the lowest level required driving accountability at the point of impact and ensuring there is alignment at all levels of the organization to deliver on financial objectives
Pricing | Complex Deal Structuring:
  • Provide strategic direction to global pricing team in alignment with the Corporate COE, establishing pricing strategies that optimize profitable growth for the division
  • Ensure sound pricing execution and behaviors are applied by the commercial teams that align to the overall growth strategy
  • Lead, through the pricing organization, the global annual price setting and roll process
  • Partner with the business units and commercial leadership to establish optimized pricing on new product introductions
  • Establish new competitive financial models to win and complex deal structuring in support of customer needs, partnering with other key functions to ensure their success
Business Partnership & Leadership:
  • Manage, coach and develop global team ranging from Analyst to Director
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to embrace outside/in thinking that advances the organization’s finance agenda
  • Act as a trusted business partner to the VP Commercial and create an environment to both challenge and support commercial leaders with sound financial guidance and strategic insights
  • Provide exceptional financial support and strategic partnership to Commercial and effectively partner and align with all other functions
  • Lead strategic initiatives across multiple functions and locations to improve commercial profitability and achieve/outperform AOP goals
How will you get here?

Education
  • An undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required; MBA strongly desired.
Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience with management experience inclusive of finance leadership role(s) and/or deep commercial finance expertise.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Proven track record delivering exceptional results through a high performing team and driving results beyond the finance function
  • Outstanding leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Proven as an experienced, confident and mature manager and business partner
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and execute in a matrix environment and across complex functional and global business reporting structures
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with all levels of management
  • Prior experience in partnering to drive transformation within commercial organizations desired
  • Strong systems and data analytic capabilities including HFM, SAP, Power BI, & Tableau
  • Willingness to work from our Waltham divisional HQ office
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including international as required
  • Must possess a strong set of personal and business values that align with those of the 4is.
