Sr. Research Assistant - School of Nursing and Health Studies
The School of Nursing and Health Studies has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Research Assistant to work in the Coral Gables Campus.

The Senior Research Assistant explores innovations to research and strives to improve implementation and family outcomes. Further, the Senior Research Assistant ensures compliance with University policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards pertaining to safety and ethics.

Plans and implements research experiments, according to research protocols, to assure high quality scientific results in support of applicable project goals. Participates in assessing feasibility of implementing innovations. Assesses data trends and develops reports and presentations. Supports the initiation of new research by reviewing and synthesizing literature. Oversees inventory of supplies and equipment and places orders in a timely fashion. Provides assistance in the preparation of scientific
papers, reports, and manuscripts. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

The Sr. Research Assistant will work on the NIMH funded Center for HIV and R
esearch in Mental Health (CHARM) as coordinator for the Developmental Core. CHARM aims to catalyze mental health HIV science at UM and in So FL with the over-arching theme of “Reducing the Impact of Mental Health and Minority Health Disparities across the HIV Prevention and Care Continua.” The CHARM Developmental Core provides the mechanisms for funding pilot projects consistent with the center aims to maximize the chances for later NIH-supported high-impact HIV/AIDS mental health science. This Core takes the lead in ensuring dynamic and supportive mentorship, and capacity-building for early-stage investigators. The Core offers pre-submission peer-review for both external (NIH) and internal (Developmental Core) grant proposals and for scientific
publications. The position entails coordinating the CHARM Developmental Core and providing direct support to CHARM early-stage investigators for manuscript and grant proposal development. The incumbent will report to D
r. Victoria Behar-Zusman, Developmental Core Lead.

The Coordinator will carry out activities for the development, maintenance, delivery and evaluation of the investigator support activities. Tasks include but are not limited to,

Coordinating and leading Pilot PI meetings, Developmental Core meetings, and Mentorship Advisory Committee (MAC) meetings

Coordinating and leading the Developmental Core report at the CHARM Executive Meeting, and CHARM advisory board meetings

Coordinating the Pilot Studies call for proposals and proposal review process

Coordinating peer reviews for Pilot and external grant proposals

Providing support to Pilot PI’s and other CHARM early career investigators

Coordinating manuscript preparation including conducting literature searches/reviews, communication among co-authors, preparing references and conducting the manuscript submission pro
cess including tracking the review and coordinating the revise/resubmit process

Developing and maintaining investigator support materials

Coordinating the development of grant application materials by preparing and gathering application materials

Coordinating the preparation of Developmental Core reports to the funding agency

Coordinating and participating in strategic planning to advance and sustain the work of the CHARM Developmental Core

Qualifications & Requirements
Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required, prefer Masters in public health or related field preferred

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Record of working on manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications

Basic skills in conducting systematic literature reviews

Basic skills in use of SPSS or comparable statistical program and database management

Ability to conduct data analysis including regression, ANOVA, and factor analysis

Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Experience in preparing lay-language written and visual materials

Highly organized, analytical and detail oriented with strong planning and writing skills, ability to work independently and think through activities, projects or initiatives with tight deadlines.

Ability to manage confidential information and oversee complex projects.
