The University Architecture Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Jr. Architect to work in the Coral Gables Campus.
The Jr. Architect steers and supports all aspects of architectural design concepts for the execution of construction projects. Specifically, the Jr. Architect reviews design visions and concepts, compiles programmatic data for future projects, and completes all respective architectural assignments.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with the development of architectural and space plans as assigned.
Assists in the development of specifications, coordinates with manufacturers and vendors.
Evaluates and implements architectural procedures and techniques to incorporate in the University’s building standards and design guidelines.
Reviews exterior and interior design concepts to assure cohesion in the University’s built environment.
Reviews completed architectural design plans and respective estimates.
Supports the University’s mission and strategic plan.
Provides overall guidance on project objectives and concepts.
Reviews proposed space renovations areas on site.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Commitment to the University’s core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Department Specific Functions
Evaluate and review programmatic space planning needs and related reports
Evaluate initial project requests
Project coordination with Space Planning
Coordinate Lessons Learned Report
Review potential Higher Education A/E firms
Review/research potential architectural products
Support/assist University Architect with the following:
City of Coral Gables Board of Architects (BOA) relationship and presentations
Project aesthetics reviews, interior and exterior
Review FF&E selections and respective costs
Campus overall/miscellaneous aesthetics reviews, e.g. donor signage, exterior art placement
Manage and implement University Building Standards
Manage and coordinate Interior Design Guidelines
Manage and coordinate Interior Signage Standards
Manage and implement University Building Paint Palette
Project managers with permitting processes
Develop and endorse green building policies, construction standards in support of University sustainable goals.
Preparation of presentations to leadership
Administration of planning policies and guidelines
Develop project scopes
Coordinate and develop proposed projects scope and fees with design consultants
Coordinate proposed/future building projects with Campus Planning
Coordinate and review City of Coral Gables BOA project submittals
Meet & Greet protocol
Serve as liaison between the University and design consultants
