Senior Payroll Specialist
Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Payroll Manager, the Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for the timely processing and the accurate production of hourly, salaried, and student payrolls. The Senior Payroll Specialist maintains a detailed understanding of Institute policies related to compensation and benefits while providing high quality and timely customer service to employees.

What you will do:

Process multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for over 2,000 employees using PeopleSoft payroll system. Perform all pay period payroll functions related to time and attendance import file, and reconciliation of time keeping, new hires, terminations, salary changes, promotions, manual checks, deductions and bonus payouts.
Enter and analyze payroll information related to each payroll. Investigate and resolve employee payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
Create pay sheets and download time and attendance data for calculation and confirmation of hourly payroll processing.
Accurately calculate employee leave time and paid time off (PTO).
Create, review and analyze reports in ARTICtime, the Art Institute’s time and attendance software, to ensure employees and supervisors are using the system according to the established policies and procedures.
Maintain detailed and complete documentation for each pay cycle. Analyze and document nonstandard transactions each pay period.
Process manual and void checks into Institute banking systems; load payment files for ACH and positive pay to banking websites.
Print and verify checks and direct deposits advices and ensure timely disbursement as necessary.
Provide high-quality and timely internal customer service when assisting employees with questions regarding their pay information.
Maintain a working understanding of Institute payroll and human resources systems, including but not limited to PeopleSoft HCM, Workforce Software time and attendance system, and ADP Smart compliance.
Assist the Payroll Manager with special projects, including end user testing for systems upgrades or new product implementations, as needed.
Maintain strictest confidentiality regarding all data that flows through the Payroll Department.
Work on other tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent experience preferred
Two to three years of payroll, accounting or related experience
Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
Previous experience with PeopleSoft payroll system preferred
Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) and Google products (g-mail, Google Docs)
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently
