University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Surgery Division of Thoracic Surgery Job Description Job Title: Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery Department: Surgery Reports To: Thoracic Surgery Division Chief Prepared Date: August 26, 2021 The Division of Thoracic Surgery of the DeWitt Daughtry Department of Surgery, University of Miami is recruiting an American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS)-certified surgeon with thoracic oncology-track training by a ACGME-thoracic surgery training program. A successful candidate should ideally have completed the training within the last 5 years and independently practiced general thoracic surgery with emphasis on thoracic oncology. Moreover, ability to obtain a general medical license in the State of Florida and DEA registration is essential. This opportunity includes a full-time faculty appointment with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a generous compensation package with outstanding benefits The Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Miami provides consultative and operative care for patients with a broad range of thoracic surgical conditions not only for the population of the South Florida Counties but also patients from countries of South America and the Caribbean. While caring for all thoracic surgical diseases, the major focus of the division is thoracic surgical oncology with emphasis on complex intrathoracic malignancies, locally advanced lung cancers using both minimally invasive robotic approach and extensive complex surgical procedures as well as state-of-the-art surgical care of patients with early-stage lung cancers. The thoracic surgery service is an essential component of the thoracic malignancy multi-disciplinary site disease group (lung) of the NCI-designated Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The successful candidate carry out the mission of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine by supporting the division of thoracic surgery in all aspects of clinical, academic and research missions. Responsibilities involve developing a clinical and academic thoracic surgery practice at various affiliated hospitals. Being a faculty member of the Department of Surgery, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching of surgical residents, thoracic surgery fellows, and medical students. This position will provide direct care, participation in the support services and rehabilitation, nutrition, psychological support, and prevention programs of cardiothoracic surgical services at the University of Miami Hospital and affiliated facilities. Attendance and supervision of the respective outpatient offices and clinics will be required, also defined according to the existing attending coverage and on-call schedules. This position will also be required to have a track-record of publishing major, peer-reviewed journals, and a history of research funding.
