With multiple global sites, the PPA business requires engineering oversite and leadership across the global network. This position may be located at the Bedford, MA; Chelmsford, MA; or Greenville, SC sites and requires 20-30% travel (primarily domestic). POSITION SUMMARY: The Director, Engineering, Purification and Pharma Analytics (PPA) has a huge impact on the success of our business. The role sets the technical direction and leads all aspects of engineering activity for all global PPA operations. This key role will collaborate closely with all other functional leadership and ensures overall business objectives are achieved though the deployment of strong leadership, innovative engineering solutions, and detailed execution. This individual will lay the foundation and technical strategy for a growing global business. Key Responsibilities: - Leads PPA Engineering teams and coordinates all site-level engineering activities in collaboration with Operational site leadership
- Ensures that engineering and project management best practices are deployed and standardized across the network
- Models a “can-do”, positive approach in addressing all operational challenges, seizing opportunities quickly and conclusively.
- Leads all global CAPEX investments for PPA facilities, in partnership with Division and Group multi-functional leaders, preparing proposals, securing approvals, developing project plans and ensuring successful execution
- Maintains oversight of all facilities and manufacturing equipment for all PPA manufacturing sites, including maintenance and upkeep of current machines as well as design, development, and installation of new equipment
- Drives continuous process improvement, embracing and championing Thermo Fisher’s (Practical Process Improvement) PPI tools and best practices
- Ensures best practices of Program Management are followed across the business, with the goal of delivering high quality, high value solutions to the organization within the agreed-upon metrics of schedule, resources, budget, and scope
- Builds and leads a high-performance team of engaged and motivated professionals to support the ongoing growth of the business, while build bench-strength within the organization and is a champion for diversity.
Qualifications: - 15+ years’ experience in life sciences, medical device, pharmaceutical, or related industry and 10+ years leading sophisticated capital projects and/or cGMP facilities management.
- 10+ years’ experience leading technical teams with strong talent management and people development skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead a global engineering and technical team in a matrixed environment
- Broad knowledge of project management best practices in engineering and operations and a thought leader in progressive engineering solutions and technology
- Strong track record of meeting objectives with a sense of urgency and driving operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Ability to collaborate and work across a heavily matrixed environment – ability to communicate effectively and concisely at all levels
- Comfortable working in ambiguity
- Fully capable of delving into technical engineering details, as the need arises
- Executive presence; strong presentation and communication skills
