Director, Global Inventory Management

DePuy Synthes (DPS) is looking for a Director, Global Inventory Management, reporting to the VP of Global Planning and Asset Management. This position can be based in Bridgewater, NJ; West Chester, PA; Raynham, MA; Warsaw, IN; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Cork, Ireland or Zuchwil, Switzerland.

This role leads the team accountable for delivering Inventory targets and optimization programs for DPS, covering Joints Reconstruction, TECA (Trauma-Extremities-Craniomaxillofacial-Animal), Spine, Sports & Shoulders and Power Tools / Robotics, partnering with Value Stream Leaders, Platform Global Planning Leaders, Regional Supply Chain, Deliver, Manufacturing, External Supply, Finance and Procurement.

This is a role with Global reach, managing a team that is accountable for oversight and tracking of $2.6B of inventory, with direct responsibility of optimization of $1B of hub Inventory (i.e., not yet deployed in the field). The role will have a direct impact on Cash Flow optimization, releasing funds that can be redirected to accelerate DPS growth and "Keep People Moving"!

The role will be at the center of new product launches, inventory versus customer service trade-off assessments, capacity planning discussions and collaborating on network design initiatives, all with a focus on ensuring the delivery of key financial metrics.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The What

  • People Leader: Develops a team of 6 individuals, who drive Inventory Management and Projects for all DePuy Synthes Platforms, assessing and implementing improvement plans.
  • Inventory Leader: Serves the Franchise's primary point of contact for Global Inventory; collaborates with DPS Regional Supply Chain teams, Finance and Commercial Business Partners to deliver targets and contingency plans. Key Metrics: 2022 Inventory Targets by Platform, with direct responsibility for Hub targets.
  • S&OP/IBP: Accountable for consolidating Global Inventory monthly and quarterly reporting, as well as budget cycles (BP, JU, NU and revisions). Drives and hosts monthly Executive Supply Review. Key Metrics: IBP process on-time execution; adherence to standard templates; improvement in IBP process maturity.
  • Optimization Initiatives: Drives inventory efficiency programs, including Global Hub Optimization (using MEIO), Lead Time improvement, Cycle Stock optimization, among others. Key Metrics: Shape, design and successful execution of key inventory improvement initiatives in the upstream supply chain driving hub inventory.
  • Multi-Echelon Inventory Optimization (MEIO): Drives the evolution of MEIO process and tool, working with Data Science team, Data & Analytics and Center of Excellence partners. Drives MEIO adoption with Regional Planning Teams, as well as in Global Planning teams, by incorporating business knowledge as well as challenging status quo. Key Metrics: Delivery of inventory improvement targets in the MEIO business case.
  • LRFP: Leads annual Long Range Financial Plan inventory planning process, ensuring alignment with strategic targets and budgets. Key Metrics: Development of the plan and gaining alignment of key stakeholders for the LRFP targets and investment budgets.
  • Process adherence: Drives adoption of Plan Transformation Blueprints. Key Metrics: Metrics critical to delivering the inventory optimization agenda for DPS, including min/max target adherence, manufacturing batch size and production frequency adherence.
  • Process Harmonization: Drives inventory process harmonization and SLOB prevention activities across the DPS Platforms, as well as between finished goods and Raw Materials inventory practices. Key metrics: Alignment of processes to MedTech standard process blueprints.

The How

  • Collaborate: Deliver results through collaboration with Regional Planning, Asset Management, S&OP, Demand Planning, New Product Development and Supply Network Planning and Finance teams.
  • Develop: Seeks continuous improvement and coaches their team to be a trusted voice for their Platforms, when it comes to representing Inventory Management in S&OP/IBP forums, through solid analytics and executive thinking. Champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Technology leader: Work with MedTech and Enterprise Capability Excellence Teams, to use existing technologies to streamline work, and participate in vision workshops, to design the function's technology landscape for the LRFP horizon.
  • Financial Competency: Applies Balance-sheet fundamentals to deliver Net Inventory targets, as well as Operational Inventory targets.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or University equivalent) with a quantitative focus in Science, Engineering or Business Management (e.g., Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Finance)
  • A minimum 10 years of professional experience, including people leadership, in a highly matrixed organization, in areas like Supply Chain Planning with extensive knowledge of S&OP processes, Demand Planning and Inventory Management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to present to Senior Leadership in a concise and eloquent manner, showing a proven understanding of inventory fundamentals, risks and opportunities, and associated impact
  • Experience with coding platforms (e.g. Alteryx / R / Python) and/or proficiency in reporting platforms like Tableau / Power BI, to drive Digital Transformation in Inventory Optimization analytics and improvement in E2E data availability to drive more sophisticated trade-off models
  • Interpersonal skills, trade-off decision-making, and influencing skills
  • This position may require up to 10% domestic and international

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research or Engineering or other Advanced degree
  • APICS certification
  • Lean or Six Sigma training or certification, or prior work experiences with high degree of lean thinking
  • Working knowledge of relevant systems (JD Edwards, SAP, OMP/APO or similar)
