Coordinator of Spirit, Pride, and Tradition Programs (Student Services Program Coordinator)|
The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Coordinator of University Spirit, Pride, and Tradition Programs - Student Services Program Coordinator. This position plans, coordinates, and executes all aspects of the University’s Spirit, Pride, and Traditions program (cheerleading, dance, and mascots) including but not limited to the hiring and supervision of two coaches, all student recruitment, retention initiatives, program/game/appearance coordination, alumni relations, and campus-wide collaboration and assisting with internal and external program representations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Activities/Director for Major Events and Programs, this position is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and implementation of all administrative and programmatic aspects of the University’s Spirit, Pride, Tradition Program; conducts annual team recruitment, tryout, and selection processes resulting in a diverse group of student participants; arranges and supports the hosting of regularly scheduled, supervised, practice, training, and advisement sessions; collaborates with multiple University colleagues to coordinate, schedule, and attend games and special event appearances including ensuring the arrangement of transportation, lodging, and other related accommodations as necessary; assists in the hiring, scheduling, and supervision of part-time coaches; responds to parent, public, and administrator questions and requests related to the program including, but not limited to appearance requests; maintains contact with and fosters an active and supportive alumni & donor base; assists in the development and implementation of marketing and public relations strategies including but not limited to the hosting of camps, youth clinics, fundraising initiatives, and outreach events; ensures the application and implementation of appropriate risk management/mitigation strategies related to student participation; oversees the management of the Northwest Studio; establishes collaborative relationships with University colleagues and external vendors/partners; provides on-site supervision of events/programs; assists in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and expenditures; responsible for providing, supporting, and participating in programs, services, and initiatives focusing on anti-racism, social justice and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all; identifies, recommends, and implements improvements related to policies, procedures, and operations; assists in the collection and analysis of program evaluation/assessment data and the proposal of program/service improvement recommendations; performs related duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree AND four years of related experience coaching or coordinating college-level cheerleading or dance programs OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and programming skills.
• Experience advising and/or supervising college students.
• Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
• Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks.
• Experience and/or ability to build a relationship with community and campus partners.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.
• Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Student Counseling, or another related field.
• Experience/ability to conduct program evaluations and assessments.
This is a full-time, permanent position located on the main campus in Storrs, CT. This position requires a willingness and ability to work nights and weekends. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The hiring range for this position is $54,734 - 56,000 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
