MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - As discussion of a special legislative session on oil drilling grows, Kendrick Meek released the following statement on today's developments in the offshore drilling debate:
"My fight has always been against drilling for oil off Florida beaches, but I can't say the same for my opponents. Governor Crist is guided by political calculations, not personal convictions and until recently, supported offshore oil drilling. That's not leadership, that's just another day at the office for Governor Crist. Marco Rubio still favors drilling off Florida beaches, once again proving he is more committed to his extreme philosophy than doing what's right for Florida. I have fought against Big Oil and drilling off our beaches my entire career, even when it was the unpopular thing to do. In a few days, I'll be in Pensacola meeting with workers, fishermen, business owners, and their families whose livelihoods are being threatened. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure Florida beaches and our economy will never again be threatened by another spill. The cost to Floridians is far to grave," said Kendrick Meek, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.
Kendrick Meek is the only candidate to consistently oppose drilling off Florida beaches while both Governor Crist and Speaker Rubio supported it. You can read their previous statements in support of drilling here:
