MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - People For The American Way Voters Alliance endorsed Kendrick Meek today citing his lifelong fight for a woman's right to choose and his support for public education. The announcement comes three days after the Florida AFL-CIO gave their full support to Kendrick in the general election.
"I am honored to receive the People For The American Way Voters Alliance's endorsement. The fight for equality, just courts and the right to vote are causes central to my life. Together, we stood in support of Justice Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. And we've fought together for Florida students and succeeded in decreasing class sizes in Florida schools. Now, in this fight to bring middle class jobs and economic opportunity to Florida, we will once again stand together to promote progress and the American way," said Kendrick Meek, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.
"Over the past years, Kendrick Meek has been a loyal friend to People For the American Way and an advocate for many of the issues that our members care deeply about," said Michael B. Keegan, President of People For the American Way Voters Alliance. "His commitment to voting rights for all citizens, his support of public education, and his record of strong pro-choice advocacy have made a real difference in Florida and in Congress. I look forward to continuing our partnership once Congressman Meek is elected to the United States Senate."
The endorsement came as Kendrick continues to gather support from progressive groups across the country.
In the past week, both Kendrick and People For the American Way have called on Congress to take immediate action to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
People For the American Way is an organization dedicated to advancing the causes of equality, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to seek justice, and the right to vote for every American.
