MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - U.S. Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek made national news this week as Time Magazine, NPR, Politico and the White House commented on Kendrick Meek's strong position in the race:
Time Magazine joined Kendrick on the trail this week. The title of the article says it all: How Florida's Forgotten Democrat Could Win the Senate Seat (http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1994060,00.html).
NPR focuses on how Florida's Meek Faces Powerful Rivals for Senate Seat (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127406040):
"But Meek says to wait until the general election, when he'll be able to draw on the influence of the state Democratic Party and President Obama. 'I can tell you, when Air Force One lands, it won't be landing for Charlie Crist - it will be landing for Kendrick Meek,' he says. 'When Democratic executive committees start to make phone calls on Aug. 25, the day after the primary, it will not be for the governor, it will be for the Democratic nominee, Kendrick Meek - me.'"
Politico discusses the role that the oil spill has had on political campaigns in Dems Drill Campaign Foes Over BP (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/38121.html), and cites the conflicting positions on offshore drilling of Florida Senate candidates:
"While Rubio has moderated his rhetoric on drilling and Crist has effectively reversed his past support for offshore exploration, Meek's campaign is quick to note that he's the only major candidate in the race who's always opposed near-shore drilling projects."
During his briefing yesterday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs strongly stated (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PPqj4NjqDY):
"[The President] supports his campaign for Senate....We are supportive of Congressman Meek."
