MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - Kendrick Meek's U.S. Senate campaign launched an online petition calling on Governor Charlie Crist to waste no time and veto HB 1143, a mean-spirited anti-choice bill (http://www.kendrickmeek.com/page/s/choice?source=facebook0608).
"This bill is anti-woman, anti-choice, anti-privacy and deserves the governor's immediate veto. Governor Crist can never escape his anti-choice past and a veto won't erase his record, but the personal decision a woman makes in private should not be dictated by a band of rigid philosophical conservatives with power in Tallahassee," said Kendrick Meek, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.
Kendrick Meek has been endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America and is the only consistent pro-choice candidate in the race. NARAL Pro-Choice America ranks Charlie Crist as an "anti-choice" governor.
Earlier this morning, the Meek campaign released a YouTube video of Charlie Crist promoting his anti-choice record (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS8b1RtCQUs).
The online petition, found on Kendrick Meek's website, reads (http://www.kendrickmeek.com/page/s/choice?source=facebook0608):
"A bill sitting on Florida Governor Charlie Crist's desk would allow the state to "to act as the final, third-party influencer" on women seeking reproductive services by requiring pregnant woman to pay for an ultrasound before obtaining an abortion. This is an unfair, unwarranted and invasive assault on a woman's right to choose and her right to privacy. Kendrick Meek - the only pro-choice candidate in this election - wrote a letter to Governor Crist urging him to veto the measure that would allow the government to invade our families homes and doctor's offices. Sign the petition to stand with Kendrick in demanding Charlie Crist veto this draconian bill."
