Kendrick Meek has a message to Florida Democrats: If he's the party's Senate nominee, defeating Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio might not be such a long shot.

"There are 750,000 additional Democrats in the state versus Republicans," said Meek on Wednesday at a rally at Temple Emeth, west of Delray Beach. "All we need is to get a third of the vote to make it happen."

Telling a group of about 175 supporters that he only needs a third of the vote might seem like an unlikely strategy, but Meek said it's the realistic approach to winning the election.

"It's making it reachable,"Meek said. "A three way race makes it very winnable by a candidate that will be represented."

First Meek needs to defeat Jeff Greene in the primary, and on Wednesday he received an endorsement from Murray Kalish, the founder of the United South County Democratic Club.

Meek knows he's fighting with Greene for support of the the condo belt crowd, and he continues to say that he's the only true Democrat in the race - a strategy he hopes will keep Democrats away from Greene, as well as Crist if Meek wins the nomination.

"This is very important to my campaign," said Meek of the club's endorsement. "They're doing the natural thing. They're true Democrats, people that 365 days a year as Democrats are making sure that Democratic ideas get promoted."

Meek again criticized Greene for making personal attacks against Meek and his mother in last month's debate at The Palm Beach Post.

"It does affect me emotionally when someone attacks my character when I know otherwise," Meek said. "I want you to look at the quality of the people running. You (Greene) cannot fool us because of your money."

Throughout the speech, Meek stressed his Democratic principles, and raised concerns about the possibility that President Obama won't withdraw troops from Afghanistan next year as scheduled.

"It's important that by the second quarter of next year we as Congress (help to) bring our men and women home and start dealing with this federal deficit," Meek said.
