MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. -- Kendrick Meek launched his Real Dem Express tour across Florida bus at a kickoff rally in Orlando this afternoon. The event, attended by more than 100 supporters of Kendrick's campaign, begins Kendrick Meek's 11-day Real Dem Express road trip across the state.
"I'm excited to get the dust under our wheels and get our campaign out on the road. There couldn't be a better place to start our tour. It's in Orlando where I announced our campaign's history-making petition drive and started the year long effort to build a top-notch grassroots campaign. The Real Dem Express is sending a clear message -- there is just one Democrat in this race and only one candidate who will fight for middle-class Florida families," said Kendrick Meek, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.
U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, Democratic congressman representing Orlando, was on hand to introduce Kendrick to the crowd. Kendrick was joined by his wife Leslie and his two children, Lauren and Kendrick Jr.
Kendrick became the first statewide candidate in Florida history to qualify for the ballot by collecting signatures from over 145,000 Floridians instead of simply writing a $10,000 check.
Earlier today, the Meek campaign released a video of Abe Dyk, Kendrick's campaign manager giving a tour of the Real Dem Express to online supporters. You can watch it here (http://www.kendrickmeek.com/pages/bus_tour_map/#virtual_tour).
The tour comes after Kendrick has spent a year and a half meeting with Florida families and building grassroots momentum across the state. The 11-day Real Dem Express tour will also showcase Kendrick's lifelong fight for middle-class Florida families.
Kendrick is riding the Real Dem Express en route to Sanford where he will take a green jobs tour at a facility there. The Real Dem Express will then take the campaign to Daytona where he will stop in at a local diner and then meet with Daytona supporters at a campaign event.
Later, Kendrick will take the Real Dem Express to Jacksonville where he will celebrate President Obama's birthday with Democrats at an Organizing for America phone bank and meet with Jacksonville young Democrats at a local restaurant.
Later this week, the Real Dem Express will travel across North Florida. He will make a stop at the Washington County Possum Festival on Saturday.
On Monday, August 9, Kendrick and his wife Leslie will travel to Miami to participate in the first day of early voting for the August 24 primary. The next day, Kendrick will travel to Orlando to debate 'Meltdown Mogul' Jeff Greene.
After the debate, Kendrick will ride the Real Dem Express throughout Central and Southwest Florida. The Real Dem Express tour will then travel through the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches. The Real Dem Express will finally end at a hometown rally in Miami on Saturday, August 14. You can view the entire schedule here (http://www.kendrickmeek.com/pages/bus_tour_map/#virtual_tour).
