The President and First Lady invited the rapper Common to attend a poetry event taking place at the White House, and apparently Fox News has a serious problem with Common visiting the residence of the President. They base their claim on Common’s “Letter to the Law” poem, which is critical of law enforcement and the government. The invitation of rapper Common to the White House this week is has been overly concerning to FOX News, Sarah Palin, and even the New Jersey state police. After learning he was personally invited to the White House by Michelle Obama, right-wing news outlet Fox News called Common a “vile rapper” on its website. They believe that rappers and singers alike shouldn't be at the White House whether it's COMMON or Jill Scott or JAY-Z...they all promote(d) violence, misogyny and HATRED throughout our communities. Really?
Musically and poetically Common and Jill Scott are about the most non-threatening artists in the game right now. I've listened to Common since he was in Common Sense and I can say that he is not a thug, but he is an activist that speaks for several people (white, black, Latin, etc) those in this country who deal with injustice, double standards, and outright oppression every day. I'm glad MY President consorts with someone who is not afraid to speak his heart and the heart of others.
Are they mad because they have ZERO trump cards to hold against him now so they have to go this route? In one week The president released his Birth Certificate, was a standup comedian at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner that shut Trump up, Visited the Disaster areas in Alabama, went to Ft. Campbell to welcome home our troops and oh by the way, got rid of one of the most wanted men in the world in Osama Bin Laden! Making a big stink about inviting Common, Jill Scott, Jay Z and other “prominent” blacks just shows me that people will never be satisfied and will never give this president his props when they are due! Hell, former President Bush didn’t even want to come to Ground Zero because supposedly he wants to stay out of the political spot light but we all know the real reason…The most successful African Americans, even our president, cannot escape the American racial paradigm, which perceives character, merit, and prestige through a distorting lens of color, but that is just MY opinion…
What are YOUR Thoughts Family….
