I know it's a problem with some men, but those generally tend to be men who are insecure with themselves. Most professional men, like most professional women, are at ease with other professionals. I think men do want to be sure that women are not going to use their power to demean them or to make them feel any less secure because they don't hold titles.
For most men, the real issue could be power -- specifically, who in the relationship will have it and how will it be divided? Men know that successful women have a number of resources and, in general, an abundance of resources relative to those of their partner which will likely influence how much power they will be able to exert in the relationship. Women who have superior financial resources are more likely to demand an equal or greater say in decisions than their man. Some men start to think that if it's her house, her car, and her money, it's her world.
Old fashioned values say that the man has to be the breadwinner, take care of the woman etc. so its gonna be pretty common for some men to be uncomfortable or even intimidated by a successful woman.A lot of men think that they are only as desirable as they are CAPABLE. Some men feels like if you don’t NEED them, you’re not going to WANT them. This is why we love to be able to set up the surround sound, take out the trash, change the oil in the car, or whatever other “manly” areas of understanding there are. With money, there can be a similar thing. I believe that strong, aggressive, ambitious people intimidate weak, passive, lackadaisical people regardless of gender. It's the gap in intelligence—not gender—that causes the intimidation. Why would you be mad that your woman made more money then you? You should be happy for her! It’s unrealistic in this day and age for a woman NOT to work. Most people don’t make enough money to support a family on a single income and if they DO, then what happens when they get divorced (as the majority of couples do)? One of them has been out of the workforce for years. How do you re-enter at square one and expect to make enough of a salary to keep up your accustomed standard of living? Make you money baby I got your back!!
