Building African Diaspora Unity
WHO: African Development Plan (ADP) an Illinois Non Profit ; and The All People Foundation (TAPF), an Illinois 501c3 are proud to sponsor a May 25th, 2014 African Liberation Day, Diaspora Unity Event in Chicago.
WHEN: Sunday May 25th, 2014, Time: 2-5 PM
WHAT: Building African Diaspora Unity; African Liberation Day - Day of the Drum
WHERE: Paul Robeson High School, 6835 S Normal Blvd. Chicago 60621.
COST : FREE

Background:
Each year on African Liberation Day we celebrate African Liberation without enough reflection on whether we are truly liberated as African people. When you look at the data on our community and the continent it is obvious much more needs to be done, but still we do not unite around issues of concern in our community.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the UNIA and Marcus Garvey's dream for a United African People. In his honor African Development Plan and our partner The All People Foundation will be working actively to unite the people of the African Diaspora.

To do this we will be sponsoring events which will ask people to leave their comfort zones, misconceptions about each other and come together to dispel myths and stereotypes. We can no longer buy into agenda's that include our disunity and lack of economic and political empowerment. Our young people are dying and need us to have a collective agenda. Programs have been removed from schools that empower them and we have sat silently and allowed it. We need to show some love to each other and get over the tribalism of location. Westside, North side, Southside- we want everyone in the house showing some love and working together to change the condition of our people and community.

It is our belief that WE ARE ONE AFRICAN PEOPLE and need to start behaving like that. ONE PEOPLE, ONE COLLECTIVE AGENDA. We want to create communities that THRIVE not just SURVIVE. We are committed to the belief that Black children in the USA, must have a future too. What will it take to secure their future? That should be what is on our mind. So this African Liberation Day as we celebrate across the country and continent let us join in and take it to a new level. Let us renew our commitment to each other, our children and our Global African community.

Looking forward
This May 25th, 2014 ADP and TAPF would like for us to do something different, in addition to supporting the local African Liberation Day events scheduled for that weekend. It is critical that we build on the momentum of representative groups that have been meeting all over the city, the renewed emphasis on finding economic solutions and fresh faces on the political scene. Younger people who look like us and have a vision for a more empowered community. They need our support. We need to create venues for them to speak, volunteers for them to tap into and support in identifying a collective agenda that they can support with their campaigns.
To do this we must begin to move beyond our comfort zones and include others who don't currently belong to our current groups. Meet new friends and be inclusive as we build coalition. We must build unity amongst our Diaspora African people worldwide. Elections are coming up soon. What is the Black agenda? Who do we have to represent our communities’ interest?
From this unity we can begin to form a BRAIN TRUST and UNITY COUNCIL and COUNCIL OF ELDERS who can help us to bring community together to develop a more proactive approach in addressing our many challenges.

OUR GOAL: Unity.
To achieve this we must begin to talk to each other and plan our collective future. We are asking for your participation at this event which will be free to the public and for those who can afford we are requesting a $5 donation which will cover expenses and be a fund raiser for African Development Plan, an Illinois non-profit whose vision is “A united African continent working closely with its Diaspora to create and implement a 50 year comprehensive development plan that will usher in an African Renaissance for the global African community.” As part of African Development’s Plan mission is Goal # 1- To unite the people of African Descent worldwide and enhance their knowledge of self, their history and collective accomplishments and challenges. The All People Foundation is a (501 C3) non-profit founded in 2012. Our primary focus is community development through multiple education modalities, small business development and affordable housing provision. This event will be part of a series of events which will be planned to accomplish these goals.
