Norfolk State University was the host site for the October Bite of Science professional enrichment session. Dr. Ashley Haines, associate professor in the biology department, served as one of the invited guest speakers for the event. The speakers discussed their research and related it back to the classroom in an effort to inspire teachers. The Bite of Science program is a cost-free dinner event that brings together middle and high school science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teachers with leading scientists or engineers from industry, academia or government. The teachers get the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research and innovation, find out how to connect the research to the their high school classroom and discover ways to inspire and guide students toward academic opportunities and STEM careers. This Bite of Science session was sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, Lockheed Martin, VanMetre Companies and Vulcan Materials and was held at NSU’s Nursing and General Education Building.
The Center for Excellence in Education’s mission is to nurture high school and university scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to encourage collaboration between and among leaders in the global community.
