Anderson Chosen for NABC All-Star Game (1391 hits)



Virginia Union University's Ray Anderson has been chosen to play in the 2017 Reese's NABC Division II College All-Star Game, the NABC announced on Monday, March 20.

Anderson, who was named the CIAA Player of the Year in February, led the CIAA in scoring and finished his VUU career with 1,995 points. He is the only CIAA player chosen to play in the game.

The Reese's Division II College All-Star game will be played on Friday, March 24, at 8:00 p.m. (EDT), as part of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The teams are composed of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division II and five senior at-large selections.

The game will be streamed live on the Sanford Pentagon Facebook page.

The game features a pair of outstanding former coaches who have had distinguished careers in coaching and athletic administration. Bill Gross spent 35 years at his alma mater, Augustana University. He coached the men's basketball team for nine seasons, posting a 154-103 record, winning the North Central Conference title in 1988-89. During 28 years as the Vikings' director of athletics, Gross helped his programs win 40 conference championships, including 17 in the NCC and 23 as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Butch Raymond has had a legendary career with the in the NCC and the Northern Sun conferences. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Augsburg College, before moving on to St. Cloud State. He had significant success at St. Cloud and led his teams to consecutive NCC titles in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Raymond also served at Southwest Minnesota State as director of athletics before being named as the fourth commissioner of the NSIC in 2004. He guided the conference expansion from an eight-team league to a 16-team super conference in NCAA Division II. Raymond retired in 2014.
