River Region band and choral students that are entering the 7th through 9th grades may now spend their summer getting effective musical instruction in a positive, safe and learning environment when they enroll in Alabama State University’s Middle School Music Skills Camp.
The summer camp begins June 26-29, (Monday - Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at the Tullibody Music Building on the ASU campus. Music and other materials will be provided.
Campers must have a minimum of one year experience and should bring their own instruments.
ENHANCE EXISTING MUSIC SKILLS
The day camp, which is designed to enhance the performance skills and music knowledge of campers, provides rising 7th-9th grade band and choral students the opportunity to learn more about their voices and instruments by playing fun music in small and large ensembles; as well as attending classes in technique, music history, music theory, aural skills, learning basic keyboard skills; working in the music computer lab; and creating a notebook of what they learn - all under the tutelage of ASU's faculty experts.
“Our summer music camp is a wonderful opportunity for middle school students to learn from university-level professors. Where else can you obtain this quality of instruction for such an affordable price? Every day offers a new musical adventure that will prepare campers to excel in music,” said Michael Zelenak, assistant professor of Music Education.
The camp closes with a final concert, which parents, family members and friends are encouraged to attend.
