Alumna to display 30-year retrospective art exhibit at UAPB (230 hits)

Scinthya Edwards will present an artist talk in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center on the campus of UAPB on Thursday, February 22 at 6:00 pm. The artist spent 30 years as an arts administrator and educator in the Arkansas Delta Region. A graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, her works vibrate with symbols, words, icons, and calculated mark-making processes. She uses color as a dominant element by mixing various mediums to juxtapose transparency and opaqueness. The artist interprets African symbols and Asian calligraphy in unconventional ways to create pluralistic tones and images. The exhibit will run through May 31, 2018.

Working as a full-time artist now, Edwards has served as an educator and arts administrator for over 30 years and has facilitated workshops, lectured and participated in many panel discussions. She has also consulted with nonprofits to promote arts-based learning. Her work has also been shown in many places including the Historic Arkansas Museum, Trinity Gallery, the Delta Cultural Center, Phillips Community College, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Exhibits include the Arkansas Arts Small Works on Paper, The Ridge and the River Art Competition, Women Over 40 Legacy Fine Art Gallery in Hot Springs, the Arkansas Repertory Theater in Little Rock, Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Senator David Pryor’s Office in Washington, DC.
