West Virginia State Universityfs (WVSU) Center for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will host two summer sessions of a day camp for high school aged youths called gThink Like an Environmental Scientist.h
The weeklong sessions will take place June 18-22 and July 16-20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the campus of WVSU.
gWest Virginia is noted for its rugged hills and pristine trout streams. However, hidden among these landscapes are lasting remnants from our industrial past,h said WVSU CASTEM Director Hannah Payne. gOur goal is to teach young people to think like an environmental scientist and identify water quality issues and support conservation efforts to keep our natural resources viable for generations to come.h
Students will complete various types of water quality testing, including identification, preservation and mitigation options to water quality challenges.
The camp is free to attend, and registration is required. To register, visit wvstateu.edu/Outreach/CASTEM .
The camp is sponsored by the West Virginia Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research - Appalachian Freshwater Initiative.
