WHEN: Thursday (Oct. 11) from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: ASU's Dunn-Oliver Acadome
Alabama State University’s Office of Career Services will host its annual Fall Career Fair this Thursday (Oct. 11), from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome, which is free and open to both students and the general public.
It offers a good traditional news story of a university hosting a job/employment event that helps both the community and its students to find either full or part-time employment, as well as important internships. It is a great example of "CommUniversity," which is a term attributed to ASU President Quinton T. Ross, Jr. that means the University and the community working together for a common good.
However, ASU's Oct. 11 event could also serve as a news story to localize the national economic outlook as the nation approaches the all important mid-term elections on Nov. 6, as well as a local story on the Montgomery-area or River Region's job market. Either way it's a good news story to both preview beforehand (so people may attend it), as well as report on it the day it happens.
ABOUT THE CAREER FAIR
The fair will include representatives from businesses, government agencies and other organizations from across the nation who will be recruiting candidates for full and part-time employment opportunities, as well as graduate schools, co-op internships and summer job openings. The number of employers who will be present now exceeds 50 and the number will only grow as the event comes nearer.
Some employers seeking to hire at the ASU Career Fair includes: Baptist Health, Cuna Mutual Group, Regions Bank and Enterprise.
Professional dress is required, and all participants must have their updated resumes with them to present to potential employers; many of whom may make hiring decisions on the spot.
