A huge extravaganza of spirituals, modern music, drama and dance performed live on stage. Local residents and businesses honored with awards for following Dr. King's example. Founded and created by renowned Hollywood actor and ASU's performing arts dean, Dr. Tommie 'Tonea' Stewart.

WHERE: The Davis Theater for the Performing Arts in downtown Montgomery.
The greater Montgomery area comes together to celebrate and honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to honor those local residents and businesses that follow his example on Friday (Jan. 18) as Alabama State University, Troy University and The Friends of the ASU Theatre offer "A Citywide Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." at the Davis Theater for the Performing Arts in downtown Montgomery at both 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The theme of the fifth annual citywide celebration for Dr. King is "Because of them, I am."
Tickets for the event are $5 for Friday's 10 a.m. matinee and $10 for the 6 p.m. evening performance.
CELEBRATE DR. KING WITH MUSIC, DRAMA & DANCE
The huge extravaganza honoring Dr. King's life will feature an interfaith choir offering spirituals and contemporary music, drama, and dance, said the founder of the event.
"This event will again honor representatives of the community who are 'Keepers of the Dream' and demonstrate a concerted effort to exhibit peace, unity and love," said Dr. Tommie "Tonea' Stewart, dean of ASU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and the founder of the event.
LOCAL RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES HONORED WITH AWARDS
The 2019 honorees who will be presented with awards on Friday evening for following Dr. King's example of helping to foster and create "A Beloved Community" are:
* Brig. General Edward Crowell;
* Entrepreneur Martha Hawkins;
* Former long-serving State House Rep. Alvin Holmes;
* The medical practice of Pryor, Winston and Johns.
