How does a student navigate their predicament
alone?
I found myself as a student working to attend
class, maintain a job in order to pay rent for an
apartment, spend time with new found friends,
along with car expenses. I never had to pay bills
or apartment rent until college. I worked as soon
as I became a teenager so that part was familiar.
My college was an 8 hour drive away from my
family so I didn’t have many people to lean on.
I had to depend on myself for deciding what
road to travel.
I knew one thing for sure, I wanted to feel independent.
So calling my family was not my first solution
when I felt alone, lost, or in need.
I didn’t have enough practice communicating
my goings on so I experienced stress.
But I did have boundaries as to what type of
work I would do to make ends meet. So I looked
desperation in the eye but I passed it by.
#Tip:
College life will invite you to every existing door.
Get a destination in mind and take steps that
lead you there.
Work to be proactive about communicating with
family, administrators or friends regarding your
struggles or expected struggles. You can talk
to me or my staff if need be.
Keep costs at a minimum and health at a maximum!
Keep learning...
