Kendrick Meek Praises Florida's Teachers and Students for Swaying Governor Crist to Veto SB 6

Miami Gardens, FL - Kendrick Meek today released the following statement praising Florida's teachers and students for bringing public pressure on Governor Crist to veto SB 6, an unprecedented assault on Florida's teachers:

"Nothing is more powerful than teachers, parents, and students standing together and speaking out against policies that degrade our teachers and diminish the quality of our children's education. The Republican leadership in Tallahassee is waging a sustained, mean spirited attack against our teachers. Their tactics are similar to the ones used in 2002 to unfairly attack efforts to reduce class size in Florida. Today's veto is a testament to the power of democracy to bring public pressure on Tallahassee politicians and push back against these heavy-handed proposals.

"The fight is far from over. In November, Floridians will speak out once again and vote down any effort to water down smaller class sizes. The groundswell of public support will reemerge, and politicians will know not to play games with our children's education."
