Kendrick Meek Responds To President's Decision to Relieve McChrystal as Top Commander in Afghanistan
MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - Kendrick Meek released the following statement regarding President Obama's decision to relieve General McChrystal from his position as top commander in Afghanistan:
"President Obama made a strong and decisive move in exercising his duty as Commander in Chief to relieve Gen. McChrystal as our top commander in Afghanistan. Now more than ever, it is critical that we stay focused on the mission at hand in Afghanistan and not allow diversions and defiance of our Commander in Chief to detract from the war effort.
"I am confident that Gen. Petraeus will serve as a capable successor and ensure our military remains on a path to success. Today, the President is backing up his words with actions in guaranteeing that we provide our men and women in uniform with the best leadership possible."
