MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. -- Winning the forth and final U.S. Senate Democratic primary debate, Kendrick Meek showed Floridians why he is the strongest Democratic candidate in the field for U.S. Senate. The debate, held the morning after Kendrick's ten-day statewide "Real Dem Express" bus tour, was hosted by WPLG-Channel 10 and moderated by Michael Putney.

"My campaign began with over 140,000 Floridians signing petitions to put my name on the ballot for the first time in history, and today Floridians again saw why I am the best candidate to represent them in the U.S. Senate," said Kendrick, a former Florida Highway Patrolman. "I am the only real Democrat in this race who will stand up for Democratic values and the only candidate who has never run as a Republican in the past.

"My record of standing up for the middle class, supporting tax cuts for working families, and protecting consumers against high credit card fees and predatory banking practices speaks for itself."

Coming off the statewide bus tour that made stops across Florida, Kendrick's campaign in building momentum. A Mason-Dixon poll released yesterday showed Kendrick leading 40-26.

Monday, President Bill Clinton will join Kendrick at three campaign rallies in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami.
