Paine Baseball Sweeps SIAC Weekly Honors
Paine College swept the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Weekly Honors with Gabriel Guzman being named Player of the Week and Adam Martin selected as Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Guzman, a 6-1 junior from Miami, Fla. batted .500 (6-for-12) last week for the Lions (20-18 overall, 11-7 SIAC). He led Paine at the plate against Morris and Albany State while recording a slugging percentage of 1.333 for the week. Guzman had five extra-base hits including three triples, one double, and one home run. He finished with seven runs and ten RBI. Guzman also had a stolen base and an assist from the outfield.
Martin pitched a complete game in a 13-6 win over Albany State while allowing no earned runs. The 6'4 senior from Aiken, S.C. struck out three Albany State batters and gave up only one extra base hit. The win moved the Lions into second place in the eastern division. Paine travels to LeMoyne-Owen for its regular season finale beginning on April 29 with a doubleheader starting at noon.
