
Fergenia H. Hood, was named 2010 Mississippi Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Ambassador for her dedication to the RIF mission and exemplary volunteer record at ICS Head Start.
“I am very excited about serving as RIF ambassador for the great state of Mississippi,” stated Hood, parent involvement director of the Institute of Community Services, Inc. (ICS). “I believe it will be a challenge and will give me an opportunity to meet great educators across the state and inspire others to become avid readers.”
Hood is a retired public school teacher. She taught for 27 years, most of it in Holly Springs, MS. She was a junior high English and reading teacher before her employment with ICS in 1997.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English from Rust College in 1970, plus master of education degrees in reading and English from the University of Mississippi. She has also done additional study at the University of Mississippi and received extensive training in early childhood development. Hood was appointed to the Holly Springs School District Board of Education and serves on numerous community and church organizations. Hood has received several awards and recognitions including the Time Warner Communications Award.
