Remember Excel Communications? that was the 1990's. You signed up for long distance. My recruiter was May May Ali (Maryum Ali)-Muhammad Ali's daughter in Las Vegas.. I went to the required meeting with very, very highly educated, good looking, comfortable people. She tried.. She got mad at me. I explained that she would have to sign up the whole City of Las Vegas (Municipal office numbers) to reap a cash income of $6,000.00 per month. One day she called, and let me have it...said I was not going to put a damper on her dream...I listened calmly. For one she was young, for two I knew what I was talking about. In the back of my mind I kept asking myself why would a millionaire's daughter have to be involved in MLM's you can call it Network Marketing, or anything else, but it is what it is. End of story, she went back to UNLV. finished in Education and is happily teaching..My other contacts? Never said a word because they were fortunate if they made back their investment.
Then it was the Pre-Paid Legal stuff..which another friend of mine in Las Vegas who did live in a 500k house, married to a doctor, brought me into Jack & Jill in Vegas got involved. I was like don't talk to me about multi-levels..in Spanish, she is from Santo Domingo. Now another friend all the way back from Tuskegee is doing it...I'm like no, No NO.
Then it was Primerica...no, No NO. I almost got suckered into a real estate scam endorsed by JC. Watts former Congressman from Ky. I paid my $1,000.00 and so my readers know..so did the other folks of our persuasion (about 230) Heck yeah, Black folks have money! that was in 2005. But I got suspicious when after lunch, they wanted another $2,000.00 I wrote them a letter, and gave them 24 hours to return my money, which they did.
Then it was Global Travel..$450.00 loss. Great write up in the Wall Street Journal. The purpose of any Network Marketer is to take your money and make you feel good about it.
Donald Trump's University? up for a lawsuit..I went to one of those too. But sat back and watched..lol...oh did I mention the Stock MLM? After a while you get very fine tuned.
Neutroceuticals which had a great concept, Fuel additives, Gas, Travel etc. Just about anything that is used by consumers is targeted for MLM's so that the FOUNDERS get rich and you keep trying!! Robert Toru Kiyosaki -Rich Dad,Poor Dad..by the time I read his book, the only one I figured made money that year was himself from the sale of the BOOK!
Now there is a new twist: adding charity organizations that say they give a "percentage" to charities involving children, so that you are doing "good' while making money..winning combination. Biggest scam in America next to lawyers! lawyers are legal stick up men.. I have no illusions about business in capitalist America.
