GRAMBLING, La (December 20, 2013) Grambling State University is graduating more than 500 undergraduate and graduate students at its Friday morning fall commencement, including four students with 4.0 GPAs.

Gayle Tricia Andrew
Andrew, a native of Castries, St. Lucia, is the daughter of Egbert and Genitha Andrew and she’s a member of the National Association of Black Accountants. She has worked with Circle K International, the Favrot Student Union Board and the board’s artistic and cultural committee. She plans to return home to work in her island nation’s accounting department then continuing her education. “My time at Grambling State University has been memorable and extremely rewarding, as promised by one of my friends, who is now a successful alumna of the institution. She influenced my decision to attend Grambling, through sharing her accomplishments and experiences. I always wanted to gain my first degree in the United States and Grambling State University seemed quite appropriate. I have put in hard work and dedicated my efforts to maintaining my academic standards, and it truly paid off! I am overwhelmed with elation to be among the highest ranking graduates.”

“After graduation I am returning to St. Lucia to render my services in the field of Accounting. I look forward to gaining additional knowledge and experience. I also plan on furthering my education in the near future, directing my focus on international business/marketing.”

Sabrina Fanet Joseph
The daughter of Fabien and Cleffa Joseph, Joseph is from Vielle Case, Dominica. She is a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, a member of the College of Business Economics and Finance Club and a member of the Favrot Student Union Board and its artistic and cultural committee. She will start a new job as a staff auditor with Deloitte & Touche, LLP in Tampa, Florida, after graduation. “I chose GSU because of its history. I felt proud to have achieved such a high academic achievement because it showed that hard work pays off and that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. Life at GSU has shaped me into a professional individual and has exposed me to opportunities that I would not have gotten elsewhere. In the near future I will be employed in public accounting and will also be pursuing my public accountant certification.”

Landry Samo Kopdjous
Kopdjous arrived at GSU from Douala, Cameroon. An accounting major, he is the son of Bertrand and Georgette Kopdjous and a member of the National Association of Black Accountants. He plans to start a new job as a financial auditor with Deloitte & Touche, LLP in New York City next year. “I decided to come to Grambling State University because I wanted a university that was able to align my desire for academic excellence, coupled with an environment where I could strive as an individual. Moreover, the well-structured medium sized classes, the academic proximity I could have with my professors and the interaction with so many students with completely different but nonetheless amazing talents made it clear to me that Grambling State was a solid foundation for greatness. It is truly grandiose and definitely a blessing to be the top graduate student of my class. Even though I’m definitely enjoying the moment, I definitely know that this is just the beginning of my prowess. Future greater achievements are sure to come my way. My immediate plan includes preparing myself to become licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Afterwards I will begin my career as a Financial Auditor for a Public Accounting Firm in New York City.”

Roxan Amanda Stephenson
The daughter of Roy and Elaine Stephenson, Stephenson is biology major from Riviere Cyrique, Dominica. She has been a member of the Grambling State University Biology Club, the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honors Society and the GSU Catholic Student Organization. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences and to work as a clinical treatment researcher in the field of infectious diseases. “I was awarded a scholarship from the Government of Dominica to continue my studies in Biological Sciences at Grambling State University. GSU seemed a suitable choice for achieving my goals since I had heard of the outstanding reputation of Department of Biology through previous students. Moreover, I am honored and extremely proud to be amongst the top ranking students for the fall 2013 commencement ceremony.”

“I aim to continue my studies and attain a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. Furthermore, in the future I hope to participate in research which can be used in clinical treatment.”
