Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue will host the university’s third annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award Luncheon on February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Black and Gold Room of the Favrot Student Union. Pogue said a special group of citizens will be recognized as they receive MLK Leadership Awards.
“This has become a favorite GSU and community event, and we want everyone to join us as we recognize one of this nation’s – and this world’s – greatest leaders, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Pogue. “We will make time to observe his contributions as we launch Black History Month and honor some of our best, biggest and favorite GSU supporters who exemplify what King stood for during his life on this earth.”
A limited number of luncheon tickets are available at $10 per person and may be purchased by contacting Rose Wright in the Office of Institutional Advancement, 100 Robinson Street, on the university campus, across from the Army ROTC Building. Or, call 318-274-2217 or email wrightr@gram.edu. No tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes and honors people who, through their service to Grambling State University, the state, region and country, exemplify King’s character, leadership and selflessness. Each must have been personally or corporately involved in making tangible, visible, and meaningful contributions to the advancement of race relations, and/or human rights causes in one or more of the arts, business, education, justice, politics, religion, science or technology and athletics. MLK award recipients will be announced soon.
